It seems like every other week there is a mobile game being released that is fashioned after some famous film or TV program. Fans of MMO strategy and build games should therefore not be surprised that the world’s favorite program capturing Middle Earth, i.e. Game of Thrones, has its own such game built in its likeness. The two are far from similar, but there are kingdoms to conquer, loot to plunder, and more importantly, dragons to wreak havoc on some unwitting masses.
A Strategy MMO at Heart
If you’ve played the likes of Lord’s Mobile, Iron Throne, and Castle Clash, then the design intent will be quite familiar. GoT: Conquest is a Massively Multiplayer Online game which is also a strategy and base builder game. The main goal of the game is to get your guild to the maximum level. There are ten tiers of troops which are available for training, for example, Household Guard, the Unsullied and Veterans. As you progress, later tiers will be unlocked. There lies a catch: you can’t train a certain level of troops before you beat a certain threshold level even if you unlock those troops. Everybody starts with a dragon (unlike in the show where only Taegeryns wield dragons). These dragons allow you to monster hunt and you can also level them up, from hatchlings all the way to adults. A meister’s tower also allows you to do research on your dragons and other things.
The look and feel of it is a lot like the MMO builder games you might have already played. There are resource buildings and buildings to train your troops, looking a lot like Clash of Kings. The game’s graphics are in the isometric perspective with a lot of textured detail.
What Makes GoT: Conquest Different from other MMOs?
The game works on an allegiance system where you can join an alliance on a server. You should do this as a weaker player with minimal resources to keep from getting attacked. Each alliance has a leader, and within each of these are tiers led by bannermen who can also have tiers of bannermen under them. In a guild, you cannot exchange alliance gifts. The only way to get such gifts is to purchase them. Shields cost a lot in this game. You can send troops to seats of power, or you can try to balance your resources and keep them low.
Is It Worth Playing?
GoT: Conquest isn’t your average strategy MMO and base builder. While it leverages on the fame of Game of Thrones, it isn’t a game you’d necessarily fall over months after you first play it.
